Letter from Judy

Greetings!  WOW and participants ushered in fall with the fun Sisters Stride into Autumn on September 23.  Sisters, Oregon is a beautiful community nestled in Central Oregon. The third weekend of September is how we choose to launch into fall with 10K and 15K distances, competitive and non-competitive divisions.  We added a 'fun run' component to the 10K, at the request of walkers with family members who like to participate, too. Many thanks to the Sisters Athletic Club for hosting the Sisters Stride.

You can read all about it in the Sisters newspaper, The Nugget.

Mark your calendars for September 21, 2008 - Sisters Stride Into Autumn 2008!

WOW will be represented in the walking booth at the Portland Marathon Expo at the Hilton, downtown Portland.  Please stop by and say HI this Friday and Saturday,

October 5 & October 6.

Good luck to all WOW subscribers participating in the Portland Marathon or the

Victoria Marathon and Half Marathon!!  Please share your stories with us.

WOW is looking for dedicated marketing help!  As we continue to grow, we need a little help spreading our wings.  If you feel up to the task, please email us!  If you know of someone who might be interested, please forward this to them.

YOUR PERSONAL CALL TO ACTION!

Take Action!  Fall is a transitional time in nature and our personal goals.  Before Winter takes over, take the time to reevaluate your health and fitness plan - for help, schedule an appointment with personal trainer, Judy HellerEmail or call 503.282.1677.

EVENT RECAP

The Sisters 10K & 15K are not exact distances, thanks to nature.  The 10K is 6.89 miles / 15K is 9.89 miles.  Results are corrected for the correct distances.

With the WV Relay, WV Half Relay, and Sisters events finished for another year, many thanks go out to our fantastic sponsors; REI, NW Foot & Ankle Clinic, Fit Right Northwest and

Walk About Magazine.  We could not have done it without you!

WVR 2008

Important Message for WVR 2008 Participants!

The registration for next summer's most amazing experience is already open and will close on December 1, 2007.  For next year, our situation is a bit different.  In order to assure the success and survival of WVR, we need 50 teams to sign up and pay by December 1st.  WVR 2008 will feature the relay, the half relay and additional events to be held in Alton Baker Park.  As the WOW Committee hones the tactical plan, walkers can look forward to bigger and better signage, more wildlife and perfect weather.  Okay, maybe not perfect!

We are asking for your help for WVR 2008

To help this unique event grow, there is a committee of volunteers focusing on marketing, sponsors and advertising.  If you would like more information on how you

can help with WVR 2008, please contact Lynn Stimson at graciebaby@aol.com.

WALKING TIPS YOU CAN USE!
A Walk A Day...

The popularity of walking as a fitness activity is growing by leaps and bounds.  Low risk and easy to start, walking has proved its health benefits in numerous studies.  An

eight-year study of 13,000 people found that those who walked 30 minutes a day had

a significantly lower risk of premature death than those who rarely exercised.
