Letter from Judy

If you are planning on enjoying a thriving vegetable or flower garden this summer,

you've probably already ordered seeds and added compost to your soil.  The same preparation is needed for those of us hoping to accomplish a new walking goal in the upcoming months.  No, you don't need to plant seedlings to cross the finish line, but you do need to train!  Here at WOW, we've been listening to your feedback and have created multiple training programs to fit our walkers varied needs.  Please note the

Speed / Racewalk Clinic highlighted below, and be sure to check out our Training Programs page on the website!

Check it out, let us know what you think, send us your suggestions/feedback!

"Hope is like a road in the country; there was never a road,

but when many people walk on it, the road comes into existence."

FEATURED EVENT: Race for the Rails

Taija Belwood, a senior at Scappoose High School, was a member of the Girls Night Out Team who loved participating in the Willamette Valley Relay.  On December 31, 2007 Taija was killed in a car accident on Cornelius Pass Road.  WOW is saddened by this loss and would like to encourage you to participate in Race for the Rails (a 5K Run/Walk) on March 29, 2008 or, consider making a donation to the Taija Belwood Foundation.  This foundation was established simply “for a safer Cornelius Pass Road”.

ARTICLE: Can I Run Instead of Walk to Train for a Walk Marathon?

Wendy Bumgardner, www.about.com

Question: "I tend to get bored easily and honestly don't have time to walk. Is there a training schedule that lets me run more often than walk to help me prepare or is walking mandatory?"

RECIPENuts - Plain or Spicy

Despite popular belief, nuts can healthfully be a staple food in your daily sports diet, not a special treat. Even dieters can eat small servings of nuts; they can nicely curb one's appetite.
