Over the past two months, Portland has experienced some unusually severe winter weather. Although the gray skies, rain and occasional snow have kept us inside rather than out hitting the pavement; here in the WOW office we have not let it dampen our walking spirit! We've been thinking ahead to kinder weather and planning for the walking oportunities it brings.
Visitors to the WOW website will notice we've opened registration for our 14th Annual RW Retreat and for the WV30K Walk n' Relay.
The Clackamas WOW Walk Club has launched. Now WOWzers can enjoy group walks at either REI-Portland, or REI-Clackamas. For more information on the WOW Walk Clubs, visit us at www.wondersofwalking.com.
I want to know how you battle the bad weather blues!

HEALTH TIP: Body Image and Athletes
By Nancy Clark, MS, RD
What do dogs and athletes have in common? Lots! Both love to exercise and love to eat. Both are also created in differing sizes and shapes. What do dogs and athletes NOT
have in common? Dogs are content with their natural physiques, while too many
athletes try very hard to change
the way they look. These athletes might be better off being
like dogs. That is, a massive St. Bernard has no desire to look
like a lanky Greyhound. Nor does the barrel-chested
Labrador want to look like a sleek Setter.
Each dog is very content and proud to represent his breed.

RECIPE: Cinnamon Roasted Pears
From Reba Akin ND
The brain is sensitive to a change in blood glucose level—too little produces fatigue, confusion, irritability and aggression, while too much may result in confusion, dizziness, and inability to concentrate. To avoid the highs and lows of mood and energy associated with fluctuating blood sugar levels, choose foods that are digested slowly.
