Pat Detloff
Pat Detloff began racewalking 7 years ago. A consistent runner since high school, Pat found himself no longer able to take the continual impact on his body. In looking for an alternative aerobic workout, Pat had remembered seeing his high school librarian racewalk at a high school track and field competition. So, the research began into learning how to racewalk. After becoming frustrated with trying to learn how to racewalk from a book, Pat went on-line, and discovered a local racewalking club, Racewalkers Northwest (RWNW). Pat was then referred to Judy Heller, a certified racewalking judge and trainer. After two weeks of instruction, Pat was hooked and began to master the art of racewalking. Since that time Pat has participated in a number of track and relay races, including USA Track & Field events, Portland to Coast & Willamette Valley Relays. Pat serves on the Willamette Valley Relay Committee, coordinating public safety assistance. Pat, who retired after a 31 year law enforcement career, thoroughly enjoys all the great people he has met in his racewalking journey. "It has been an enjoyable and rewarding transition to the sport of racewalking. The benefits of excellent health and comradeship have been tremendous".
