Bruce Palmer
I was born in December, 1950 in New Zealand. I joined an athletic club when I was 8 years old. Over the next 47 years I had the opportunity to keep the sport of running close to my heart, competing in distance races in N.Z, Australia, Asia, Europe & the States.
Running also offered the chance to make a living working at Nike for 12 years in Running Sports Marketing. I left that and started my own Event Sports Marketing business, creating new events and offering my experience to several events around the West Coast.
I worked for the 1996 Olympic TV Broadcast as a spotter for Track & Field which was a great experience. Also during my time at Nike, I was able to enjoy the Olympic experience in Los Angeles, Seoul, and Barcelona.
Walking for health and fitness started about 4 years ago after injuring my back. It has allowed me to compete in a couple of events, but more important to enjoy the outdoors.
Being on the WVR committee has been very satisfying -- seeing an event like this come together and then experiencing the excitement at the finish line from the participants when they arrive in Eugene is very rewarding.BR>
