Marie VerMeer
Marie VerMeer began fitness walking in 1990 and racewalking in 1996. After completing the 1990 Portland Marathon, she was hooked. Marie's now-husband, a racewalker since 1972, introduced her to the sport. Since that time, Marie has participated in a number of track and relay races, including USA Track & Field events, Portland to Coast and Willamette Valley Relays. Marie serves as the Racewalk Officials Chair for USATF-Oregon Association and is a certified racewalk official. She is a two-time recipient of USATF's Racewalk Contributor Award and is President of Racewalkers Northwest. Marie serves on the Wonders of Walking Advisory Board and Willamette Valley Relay Committee, handling registration, administrative items and organizing the Relay Captain's Meeting. In "real life", Marie is Vice President and Manager, Project Management Office for a local financial institution. Marie says, "As a non-athlete, I finally found something I could be successful in. For me, the benefits of walking include building relationships with committed, passionate people who love the sport as much as I do." t
