Congratulations on your accomplishment!!!! Whether you participated on a Competitive or Walk Our Way team, YOU are a winner. As a team member, you faced a variety of challenges from the moment you agreed to be on a team. As a team captain, your biggest challenge may have been putting the team together. You did it! On July 14, Willamette Valley Relay participants traveled the 135+ miles from Champoeg Heritage State Park to Eugene's Alton Baker Park, where we all celebrated this amazing accomplishment of team work: teams, community, agencies, volunteers, sponsors and charity.
The relay wouldn't be possible without the incredible support of the volunteers! As in previous years, we had an awesome group of folks helping to ensure the safety and success of our participants.
Wonders of Walking is founded on celebrating walking and walk-only events. WOW honors the continuum of walking whether we walk socially (most of us do some of the time) or enjoy competitive walking. The Willamette Valley Relay is our signature event. It is a unique experience, as one participant said 'a relay with heart.' We thank you for your participation and support. Please help our event grow. Growth can be recruiting additional teams; the course can support more teams without being crowded. Growth can also be in the form of other business alliances in the form of sponsorships.

Another successful Willamette Valley Relay has come and gone! Thank you to the participants, volunteers and supporters!
Happy walking!

Winning Team Awards!
Congratulations to team #10 "Girls Night Out" for winning the "Triple E" award for the 3rd year in a row!!! This prestigious award is voted on by participants for the team that is the most encouraging, enthusiastic and entertaining. The best dressed van was awarded to team # 110 "Cowboy Soles", who decorated their van with a bull frog in a cowboy hat. We hope to have photos of all the great vans posted to our gallery soon, so check back with us! We'd also like to mention team #119 "Under Construction," who handed out baggies of goodies to most of the volunteers to thank them for their help which showed a genuine concern for the event and those involved.
Accuracy of Predicted Times
Out of the 40 teams, 29 teams came within 1 hour of their predicted times (72.5%) and 16 of those within 30 minutes (55% of those within 1 hour, 40% overall)!! Congratulations to the team that got within 24 seconds of their predicted times!!! We provide this as a means to reinforce the importance of ensuring your predicted times are accurate so that you don't have to wait for the course to be set up. Safety is always our first concern which is why we emphasize this.
What our Participants & Volunteers Are Saying!
We love hearing from you!!! A couple of quotes we received we'd like to share are:
"Just wanted to let you know what a wonderful event the Willamette Valley relay was. It was two of my friends first time doing a relay and they can't stop talking about it. We are so looking forward to it next year. Keep up the good work" (Robin Boespflug, first time participant).
"We've participated all 3 years and this is the best one yet!" --Jerry Britsch
"I felt as if the people involved in the race actually cared about us -- we'd have people making sure everything was OK at the staging areas, then WOW committee officials would drive by and chat, then the motorcycle people would come by.... made me feel everyone involved had a concern that the event be safe and fun for everyone." WVR 2006 Volunteer
Thanks to those who Supported the Fundraisers!
This year, we had support from great organizations along the route -- a rich BBQ of burgers and chicken with all the fixings was provided by the Emmanuel Bible Church. The Albany Fire Department provided Allen Brothers coffee, cookies, fruit and other great treats in the late evening. At finish line, participants were able to enjoy the treats from "Three Guys a Smokin" BBQ. DJ Paul, from Altered Ego entertained finishers as they recuperated, relaxed and reflected on their great accomplishment.
Lost and Found
Found - A pair of prescription glasses were found on the course. They are metal rimmed with purple or rose-tinted lenses.
Lost - A Thermalite sleeping pad in an orange compression sack was lost. This was likely left behind at the major exchange at the boat ramp.
Lost - The Willamette Valley Relay 2006 picture sign (The sign all the teams held in their team photo) was lost at Alton Baker Park. We need it back!
If any of these items are yours, or if you have found any of these things, please contact us at info@wondersofwalking.com.
Volunteers ROCK!
The volunteers were awesome and the support from the Intel Motorcycle Club are just a few of the elements that make the Willamette Valley Relay a unique event.

We need your help!
WVR is designed for you, the walker. It is the only relay event that caters to all walkers - fast or slow, within form or not - it's designed with the walker in mind. As one participant stated, "It is the relay with heart!" We need your help to spread the word about WVR and the other WOW events. Our participants and volunteers are our best marketing tool so please encourage others to develop their teams and start planning for an even better WVR 2007!
Event results are posted on the Wonders of Walking website.
